Have you ever met your great-grandparents?
Have you ever seen a picture of the great-grandfather of your grandfather?
Flowing through our veins there is the blood of countless individuals that we have not met.
This piece is meant as Testament of our roots, the foundation of our society shaped by the history and lives of those who came before us.
Our gestures, values, fears, and instincts are shaped by people whose faces we may only know through fading photographs.
This creates within myself a quiet tension between presence and absence: we are here, but we are built from those who are not.
The canvas over which I made this work is a wooden door.
In this work the door becomes a metaphor for lineage: a passage between generations, between past and present, between lives lived and lives inherited.
We stand on this threshold constantly, shaped by what came before while shaping what will come after.
