This is a controlled oxidation of a
copper sheet.
For months I studied in which way different chemicals would oxidized the copper, in order to recreate the iconic concept of the still life, using only oxidants.
The concept of patina, meaning coulouring metals through oxidants is as old as the bronze age, but it is mainly used to colour sculptures and not painting images.
Most arist painting on metal, would include the use of pigments and acrylics.
In my research i was not able to find anyone creating such a piece only via oxide painting.
The reason is simple it is very hard to control a colourless liquid on metal that realeses toxic gases when applied. There are indeed many inconviniences.
Through the use of different masking and painting tecniques, using only oxidants, i was able to create an image of something we have always seen in the museums but created in a way you definetly have never seen before.
This was just the first step to what can become an incredible journey.
