Natura Morta In Patina

This is a controlled oxidation of a copper sheet.
For more than a month I studied in which way different chemicals would oxidized the copper. I studied the formulas, in order to create the iconic image of the still life, using only oxidants.

The concept of patina, meaning coulouring metals through oxidants is as old as the bronze age, but it is mainy used to colour sculptures, not painting images. In my research i was not able to find anyone creating such a piece via oxide painting. The reason is simple it is very hard to control a colourless liquid on metal. As the process is also very toxic, there are many inconviniences. Through the use of different masking and painting tecniques, i was able to create an image of something we have always seen in the museums but in a way you definetly have never seen before.
More to come.
